The Haunted House of the Mind

Many people are haunted by something in their past. Fear, anger, regret, guilt, shame can be deeply imprinted in the psyche and nervous system and color one’s sense of identity.

If, after doing a lot of “personal work”, the ghosts of one’s past are still hanging around, then the key to the door out of the haunted house is to notice that when the mind stops, the past stops.

To be aware of the ‘I’ without the story of ‘me’ is the foundational recognition that leads to the end of the haunting and to freedom, because it reveals the story of the past to be a deceptive appearance — a phantasm.

When we realize our true nature to be limitless consciousness itself, then the ghosts of the past have no place to stick.
